Today should be a fine day here in the upper Midwest. The skies are blue and the empty cornfields and backyards are covered with a thick layer of freshly fallen snow.
And all over America people get to take a day off to spend with friends and family, even though it might drive them crazy after a few hours.
(That's why the movie theatres stay open tonight!)
Here's one thing that I am thankful for: even though the country went through a rough time with our recent presidential election, at least, in the end, we think it was legit. (The stories of voter fraud in Ohio will have to wait another day.)
I've been paying very close attention to the situation in the Ukraine. Basically, two guys named Viktor ran for President and the Kremlin-backed Viktor won, even though most of the exit polling showed that the other, cooler Viktor was winning by several percentage points.
Now charges of voter fraud have been coming from everywhere. Europe and the U.S. both refuse to recognize the new government until a proper recount is done. More importantly, thousands and thousands of people have filled the streets of Kiev and other cities, national strikes have been called, and flowers have been strewn across the riot lines.
To the Ukrainians out there who are braving the cold and wind and a government that has its guns pointed at you, I say good luck, and may a peaceful and accurate solution to your election be found quickly.
